Here are some things you may not have known about VAIN.
1. VAIN is currently home to six volunteer-employees. We work part time for VAIN, as we are all full time employees elsewhere or full time students. Between the six of us, we produce each issue to the best of our abilities.
2. VAIN prides itself on its ability to publish great things no matter whose name is on the submission envelope. Sure, it would be nice if Hunter S. Thompson magically submitted an article, but seriously, we’re okay that he didn’t.
3. VAIN offers emerging writers a chance to do some fine tuning. If we haven’t published you, let us tell you why. And let us show you a way to fix it. VAIN volunteers, which include past newspaper editors and creative writing majors, give one on one feedback to anyone who requests it. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact You work from home, make your own hours and take on your own workload.
4. VAIN relies on the generosity of individuals who are willing to submit their work for publication. We don’t take the rights of submitted work. And we don’t pay our submitters (Sorry).
5. VAIN is an employee owned company.
6. VAIN commits itself to progressing the arts. With each issue, VAIN participates in some act of charity which helps the creative realm. If you have any suggestions as to what we should do, please contact
